Rules for Stargirl Spring

Stargirl Spring, inspired by Jerry Spinelli's book, is a reclamation of your own authenticity. Stargirl meant a lot to me growing up as the only Brown girl in so many spaces. Now, as an adult, I realize that I'm finally doing the healing work of being comfortable authentic no matter what room I'm in.

For the last two weeks of May, we'll be embodying Stargirl by following these rules:

  1. Embrace Visibility: For these two weeks, deliberately allow yourself to be seen in your authenticity. No hiding.

  2. Ban Self-Deprecation: No apologizing for or making jokes at the expense of your genuine interests, appearance, or ideas.

  3. Follow Joy Impulses: If something brings you genuine delight, do it—even if it seems childish, uncool, or strange to others.

  4. Release Outcome Control: Let go of managing how others perceive you; your only job is expressing your truth.

  5. Practice Unapologetic Curiosity: Ask questions you're genuinely wondering about without worrying if they seem weird or inappropriate.

  6. Document Reactions: Note how people respond to your authentic self—positive, negative, or indifferent—without judgment.

  7. Find the Fellow Strange: Each day, notice and appreciate someone else who's living authentically outside conventional norms.

  8. Respect Boundaries: Being authentic doesn't mean making others uncomfortable—differentiate between breaking social conventions and breaking consent.

  9. Daily Reflection Required: Spend 5 minutes each evening writing about what felt freeing and what felt frightening about that day's authentic expression.

  10. No Backsies: If you begin to feel self-conscious during an authentic moment, commit to continuing rather than retreating to safety.

I'll also be sharing daily challenges in the Stargirl Spring Group for the next 2 weeks. Join the group tier to participate xx
